Fun Fact Friday is a flashback to the 1948 Olympics in London. The 14th Olympiad took place just three years after the Second World War. By any athletic standards the show was superb despite the fact the weather was the worst in Olympic history. The sun shone only three days. After the war, the obvious and overriding emphasis in London 1948 was the athletes and friendly competition.

London 2012 should be remembered as a roaring success. So far the 30th Olympiad has been phenomenal. It was a week of Great British summer weather. There’s been a mix of sunshine and showers but we haven’t seen a washout. What makes this Olympics extra special for many Londoners is that it will be the first time in history that any city has hosted the games three times.
